WELCOME TO MY BLOG
Hello friends, family, sponsors & clients!
I am so excited to start this summer 2013. Thank you for all of your support as I accomplish my race goals. Check out the calendar of events and join me on race day, or you can check this blog to see my posted results. I am so blessed to have a healthy body after having two children and look forward to many more races in the future! I so appreciate those of you that sponsored me in 2011. It was a successful year! I placed 3rd in my age group in the Grapevine Triathlon and 8th overall female with a time of 1:22 for the sprint distance. I took 1st place overall female, 3rd overall male and female in the Indoor Lifetime Sprint Triathlon, and placed 5th in my age group at the Austin Olympic Triathlon with a time of 2:59 , which I plan to beat this year! I placed 1st in the Roc the Doc 5k for the second year in a row, and then ran the Azalea 10k for the second time- 6 months pregnant! I ran that with my brother Ben and Sister Sarah- who pushed a stroller with a baby. Check out the pics! The last 2 years have flown by as I have been so busy with two children now. But things are starting to get back to normal and I am feeling more myself.... I am READY TO RUN !

Yesterday's Race Day
First off, in reply to Natalie’s comment, I do apologize for all of the typos in some of my posts. It is a struggle to get on the computer because my daughter Emma is going through a very clingy strange and if I am on the computer then she wants to be a well. So these posts are usually rushed. On top of that, this blog site doesn’t quite think as fast as my multitasking brain (haha) so when I am typing fast sometimes it misses some of the letters ad I have to go back and fix it. Very annoying!
Any ways...
About the triathlon yesterday...
I won first place in my age division!
My overall time was 1Hour and 22minutes compared to 1:27 last year. This bike ad run coarse were longer than last year too, so I would have been interesting to see how much I really improved. I thought long and hard about doing the cooper sprint tri again this year (next month) but I think it is best to focus o long-distance training for September Olympic Triathlon in Austin.
I felt pretty good about the race except my run. The swim was pretty strong. I finished in 5:49. My goal was 5:15 which is what I did in practice, but there were a few complications. I passed three men during the swim and one guy was really big and I had a hard time passing him. I was stuck behind him trying to get around and dodge oncoming swimmers and finally when we stopped at the wall he let me pass. I think I missed a least 3 flip turns because of people in my way. The transition to the bike was good except my sock got bunched up- that was annoying during the ride I passed about 8 people on the bike route and one past me in a fancy thousand dollar tri bike. My second transition to the run I was totally brain dead. I fixed my socks and switched out of my bike shoes and Craig told me from the side lines to get a drink. He meant from the water people on the run but I thought he meant from my water bottle before I left it, so that took more time, and I put my shirt on at transition instead of while I was running like last year. I lost a lot of time there and my legs were really heavy on the run. I felt like I had been going at least 3 miles when a lady said I had just gotten to the 2 mile marker. BLEH! My training buddy Julia caught up t me and passed me by, I had hoped to catch up to her and hold her hand at the finish line but didn’t gain the energy back. My goal then changed, to just not walking and finishing strong. I passed 3 more people on the run, but two others including Julia passed me. My bike time was 41:57 and my run was 32:41 which is an 8.47mile pace (that isn’t too bad for me). The bike ad run coarse were pretty hilly but I was much more comfortable on my new bike. I also missed one of the turns because it was poorly parked so I had to turn around, but that only cost me a couple seconds. There were a lot of really sharp turns on the bike route. I read someone’s blog from last year’s race who had broke her collar bone in an accident caused by one of those turns, so I was extremely careful and took the turns really slow. I averaged at 17mph. Had it been a more flat course that would have been a lot fast I am sure! I feel proud of m times and so proud of my training partner Julia who placed 3rd over all females! It was a great race for both of us! After wards Craig and I went on a date to see the new Pirates movie and I pigged out at my favorite restaurant Red Lobster. I have a client from my exercise classes who gave me a gift card there to say than you! That was pretty cool. Well this week I am taking off, and then starting next week I begin my base training for long distance. Call me crazy but I am really looking forward to that! =) Hope to see yall atone of my upcoming races!

A day to rest...
Well my sprint triathlon is just around the corner. I feel as ready as I can be. My legs are a little tired after I rode 14 miles and ran 4 this morning and then taught two classes at the gym. I really wanted to do that monday and then take today and tomarrow off but I was at my parents house for memorial weekend and there wasnt any where to ride or run since they live on a dirt road off of the major highway and there isnt a shoulder on the highway. I braught my bike down there (louisiana) but didnt get to ride. This morning I did the bike and run total 1 hr and 32 minutes. The run was really slow for the first two miles, about 11 minute mile pace, and then once my jegs started to feel a little better I picked up speed a little at the end and tried to ignore the cramp in my side. =p fun fun fun. I am going to hit the sack early tonight and tomarrow for sure! Tomarrow I teach yoga and I will take it really easy, then we are going to pick up our packets and drive the bike coarse so we know what to expect. Other than that, I am going to eat carbs and RELAX! Julia Conger had been my awsome training buddy, and I know that she is dead set on beating me this year. She is without a doubt much faster than me at running. Bike is close but she is pretty good, and I have her on the swim. Unluckily for me, the swim is the shortest part of the race. =) I have had a blast training with her and I cant let myslef get too worked up over who beats who, but my main focus is to get good times and hopefully to place in my age group. I did the tri last year in 1:27 on my mountain bike. This is a little longer bike and run and shorter swim so I am not sure how I will do but I hope to be in the 1:20s. The hills have a huge factor though so I am not sure what to expect. Well wish me luck! Hope to see you guys saterday!

training...
Well, training lately has been so so. I accomplished my swimming goal! Monday I swam 1500m in 27 minutes, and then I did it again Wednesday in under 30 minutes but I didn't have my watch so I wasn't exactly sure of my time. I have a really hard time keeping count of my laps. Julia and I figured out that 40 flip turns is 1000 meters. That helps a little but I still find myself getting lost in my thoughts and then wondering how many I have done. As far as running goes, I have gotten slower. But I am enjoying long distance a lot more now! I have to really watch what I eat if I want my run to be good, otherwise I really pay for it! I have subbed a few extra cycle classes lately and Craig went out on the bike with me. We are hoping to go again tomorrow if the weather is okay. It has been really windy and today rainy, so we will see. Well I have the June sprint triathlon coming up in two weeks so this next week is going to be my most serious training week and then I will take it a little easier the week of the race. We are going to my parents house for the weekend too so I will have to stay disciplined. I have a friend at La Fitness named Brenna who just did an Olympic distance last weekend (I am doing one in September) She told me that her 8 year old daughter told her that she sets a great example to her because she works out and reads her bible. She is a mother of 5 and is competing! I hope that one day Emma and my future children will say similar things about me! And maybe when they are a little older we can have a family trip to Hawaii and mom will do and IRON MAN!!!!! =) but right now lets take it one day at a time.

Results from indoor tri posted!
I just checked the results from my tri on saturday! You can check them if you want http://www.indoortri.com/.
They do a point system depending on how many participants there are. I placed 3rd over all in total points and I was the 1st female! =)
I placed 4th in the swim, 6th in the bike, and 3rd in the run. The crazy thing is that the run was the hardest part for me! Maybe I should have worked a little harder on the others. Well this morning I swam 1000m. I got there later than I wanted and had to cut the swim short so that I could go to the grocery store and get diapers. lol. And I taught cycle tonight. Tomarrow I am teaching yoga so I am going to go early ad run on the tred mill 20-30 minutes. I also teach pilates and Aqua tomarrow night though so I dont want to train too hard tomarrow. Plus I dont want to be away from Emma any more than I have to. This is why I would not be able to do an Iron man unless my kids are grown. I just have a hard time being dedicated to train when I am allready away from Emma so much, especially lately with school too. She has transitioned really well into nursery at church though and they say it must be because she is used to the daycare. Well I stink pretty bad from cycle so I am going to hit the shower! Thanks for reading my blog and supporting me on m y races!
Next up is the Onion festival 5k on the 30th

Life Time Indoor Tri
"I tried the indoor tri"
It was a lot of fun and not so competitive. I would definately suggest it to any one who is interested in doing a tri for the first time because you go at your own pace and no one gets left behind!
We were allotted certain time frames to complete as much distance as possible for each component of the race. 10 min swim, 30 min bike, and 20 min run.
My goals were to do 500m swim, 10-12 mile bike, and 3 mile run (this was a pretty huge goal and caused my shin splints before my 10K race)
I accomplished my goals ALMOST.
Results will be posted on the indoor tri website, however Craig helped me keep track of them pretty well.
I completed 575m swim, 15.4 mile bike and 2.68 mile run.
The run of coarse is always my weakest point. I had done a trial run on the tred mill previously and had kept an 8.0mph pace until the last minute when I sprinted. This morning however I decided to start off stronger so as to try to get my 3 mile goal. I started at 8.5mph and by the second mile had to slow down because I was completely pooped and my legs were feeling like lead weights. By the last few minutes I gained speed again and finished at 10 mph! Which is my fastest! I finished hard and strong and I am proud of that. When the timer went off I hit the stop button and jumped to the side dropping my head down on the tred mill to catch my breath. whew! I then got some breakfast and went home to shower. I tried to take a nap but Emma was crawling all over me and spilling tater tots all over my bed. So I got up and went to La Fitness to teach Yoga, Then went to school for a gruesome 5 hours. Then Craig and Emma met me at Olive Garden for dinner and now we are finally home. (I should be studying for my test tomarrow but instead I am on my blog. =)
I really had a fun experience though and hope that in October I can recruit some of my family members and friends to join me! Well... now it is time to get serious in my training because June I have a sprint and September is the Olympic distance! Whew! Wish me luck!

WOHOO!!! I placed in my first 10k race today!
Well I just got home from my sister Sarah's house in Tyler Texas. This morning I woke up at 6: 30am to get ready for my race. We didn't get to bed until about 11:00pm and it was a rough night with Emma sleeping in the bed with me, and Craig sleeping on the floor since she kept kicking us. So I am exhausted right now and about ready to hit the sac. I have been fighting shin splints, a hurt knee and ankle all on my left leg for about two weeks now, off and on. The first mile of the race they were hurting pretty bad but I soon forgot the pain as the adrenaline kicked in. The trail was so beautiful! We ran through an old neighborhood of gorgeous southern houses and azaleas in bloom. I kept a pretty good pace and was passing a lot of people the first few miles and I felt good, but worried that I might now be able to keep it going for the whole race. There were a number of girls ahead of me in my eye sight that I one by one caught up to and stepped in front of. One girl wearing bright pink shoes was riding my tail hard for most of the race. At one point she got in front of me but in the end I didn't let her beat me. About 4 miles in we went up a very long hill that I felt would never end. I tried to do like I have been reading and keep my arms low and relaxed and push through as I went up hill and then lengthen my stride and lift my arms on the way down. I think this really gave me an advantage over the others because it was in these hills that I passed up a lot of people. There were two girls though that kept catching up to me and I was determined to beat them. I also ran steady for a while with a 60 year old man! Isn't that amazing? And I had a hard time with it at 21! When the pointers told us we had one mile left I really kicked it into gear. I sped up and put enough comfortable distance between me and those other girls and tried to keep up the pace. When I saw the finish line about 100 yards ahead I started bolting and as I crossed the finish line the announcer exclaimed, "Wow! What a finish!" It felt so good for my first 10k. I however didn't even see all the other girls that were still way ahead of me and I finished 11th over all (in women). My time was 49.37. Which is less than an 8 minute mile! (My goal was to do it in under and hour) And I placed third in my age division and got a plaque. I am not sure how many people I was up against but it was a huge crowd! This was definitely the most competitive group I have ran with! As always the best part of the race was coming up to the finish line and hearing my family cheering me on and my hubby telling me to push it through, giving me just enough encouragement to find what energy was left inside of me. Thank you Sarah, Paul, and Troy too for cheering me on! I cant begin to explain how rewarding it is to have smiling faces greet you at the finish! Hours after the race my calves were still burning! This is a good sign! I am proud of my first 10k.

Beautiful Day!
Wow the weather was so great today! I ran sprints today with my neighbor Jessica. I just did a mile to warm up and then we did sprints together while our daughters played on the play ground. My left knee has been hurting so I went a little easier today. Yesterday after I taught water aerobics I ran for 20 minutes on the tred mill as a trial to see how many miles I could do. My goal for the April sprint triathlon is to do 3 miles in 20 minutes. That is less than a seven minute mile. Yesterday I did 2.73 miles in 20 minutes so I am not too far off. I ran it at 8 miles an hour untill the last mile and then I increased my speed up to 9.5. I swam 350meters in about 5 minutes after that. My goal for my swim is to do around 500m for 10 minutes. At the Stonebridge Traithlon last summer I did the 350m swim in 8 minutes! Tomarrow I am going to run at celebration park after my yoga class with Julia, and then I teach cycle in the evening. whew! It has been a lot of work this week. Lets see... by the end of this week I will have worked out about 13 times. That is including teaching my group exercise classes. I have been really trying to work at my diet lately too. Cutting back on my portion sizes and on my carbs. I have been trying to eat more for breakfast and snack more often during the day. It helps that I do this allready with Emma (my 1 year old). Up untill the night before my race I will be eating very well and then I will carb load. I only have one week before my 10k! (The 26th in Tyler ) I had better get some long distance in! Wish me luck!
Remember the deadline to be able to get your name or company on my race shirt as a sponser is coming up! I still need $180 to pay for race fees and the shirt. Once I have reached that goal I will put the rest of the money towards Angelman syndrome foundation. I will be having the shirt made THURSDAY at the LATEST, so dont miss out! If I dont receive the donation before then, your name or comany wont be on my shirt for this summer. Thank you for your support!

first post
Welcome and thank you for visiting my site! As you can see I have a 10k run coming up in just a couple weeks so I will be running at least three times a week now. I ran my first 6 miles just a few months ago, considering that I used to HATE running! This all started because I was wanting to loose my baby weight so I started running with the jogger. I met my friend Julia Conger who encouraged me to push myself a little further each time. I remember in highschool when they would make us run a mile and I would dread the day! haha. Now I look forward to running because it gives me a break from life, an escape. I have ran 6 miles three times now! Tomarrow morning after I teach yoga I am going to run and ride my bike since Craig is staying home from work. I'll just go around the neighborhood and do a 5 mile bike followed immediately with a 3mile run. WOO HOO!
